Taken with a point and shoot, Canon ES15
It doesn’t matter whether you have a simple “point and shoot” compact camera; entry level DSLR; a fancy
Canon 5D MKII; or even a cellphone! Photography isn’t about what equipment you have, but more about just capturing the moment. In fact, I took one of my favourite pictures with a cheap
Samsung ES15. This is what I had on me on the time, so it is what I used.
This is an important point. It doesn’t matter how much you paid for your camera equipment, or if you have the latest L series lens. If you don’t have your camera on you, then you aren’t going to be able to take the picture. This is the reason I got the compact camera, for those times when I don’t feel comfortable having my large camera on me.

Set your compact camera to Auto

Set your DSLR to Auto
The first thing you should do with your new camera is just start using it. Take pictures, of everything! Get used to seeing the world as your camera sees it. For now, leave the camera on Auto (if you are using your cellphone, you don’t really have an option here! If you are using a compact camera it will probably be on the on-screen menu. If you are using a DSLR it will most likely be a knob on the top of your camera that you need to turn to a green square).
The next thing you should do, once you have gone out and taken loads of photos, come back to Actionshot.com to take your photography to the next level!
